Hello Everyone,
Welcome back to the school for 2020 and a special welcome to all our new families. This is the first Newsletter of the year. It has been a very busy start to the year, but I am always amazed at how quickly all the students settle into their new routines and into their new class groups. As a few of you will know we now have an additional class ‘Silver’ which is Jessica Richardson’s new class. It has meant that although we have started with more students then we have ever had there is still some growing room if we need it for new students.
We have welcomed a few new members of staff this term: Mrs Shantelle Williams is the Teacher in Orange Room, Ms Sam Lombard is the Teacher in Green Room and Mrs Danika Papalia is our new Specialist teacher for Art and Physical Education. We also welcome Mr Michael Guest, Ms Kaegan Brown, Ms Jessica Carroll, Ms Laine McLachlan, Mr Ali Abdullahi and Ms Palavi Parmar who have joined us as Education Assistants.
Over the summer holidays we had some building work done. Many of you will have noticed Vicky Johnson’s new office layout which is a much better work space for her and gives the office a better reception area. We have also converted the old kitchen into an Innovation Hub which will be used for our STEM subjects (Science Technology and Maths).
Today (Friday) we had our parent’s information sessions for 1,2,3, Magic and Emotional Coaching. For those who weren’t able to make it to the session today, 1,2,3 Magic is a behaviour management approach which we are using across school. It involves identifying which behaviour the staff in each class are targeting with individual students to help them develop their own self regulations skills. We will be developing an information booklet about it for you to read and how to access some training if you are interested in attending one of the Parent/Carer training sessions.
Last week Travis Nightingale our School Board chair sent a letter home about the Open General Meeting on Wednesday 26th February to which you are all very welcome. This is an opportunity for you to meet our school board and to hear about the whole school improvement targets that the school has been working on in 2019 and what we will be focusing on in 2020. We are still looking for two Parent Representatives on the board so if you are interested please either come along to our AGM on Wednesday or talk to anyone in Admin.
We are starting to focus on the rest of the year events - this term we are planning one whole school excursion in week 9. A letter will be coming home very soon. We have provisionally planned one excursion each term as a whole school. We are also looking at running a school camp for years 4, 5 and 6 in Term 3. If you haven’t got a term planner with this term’s dates on it or have lost one, it is available on our website or ask Vicky in the front office. Next week all class teachers will be starting IEP meetings with you – please look out for a DOJO message from them and a sign up outside the classroom.
Warmest Regards
Debi Taylor
We have jumped right into Silver Room head first! Our classroom run via a TEACCH method which means lots of student independence and structure which is a perfect way to start introducing high school norms for our seniors. It’s been a busy start with our first assembly on this Friday along with Beth’s role as a student counsellor. Here’s a few snaps of the class and some of their Valentine’s Day writing.
Yellow Room have had such a smooth start to the year, all the students have transitioned into their new classroom so well. The students have loved trying out the new Paul Swan Maths games from our brand new Maths trolleys. Lastly, congratulations to Abu, Charlie and Ivy for being elected student counsellors Cloverdale ESC. We know that you will be such great role models for all the students in Cloverdale Schools. We know you will be fantastic leaders this year.
Hello!
Welcome to 2020 on behalf of the "Parents and Citizens" or P&C of both schools. The P&C met on Tuesday evening, with a good turn out of new faces and experienced ones. With a mix of new and old faces in the newly voted in Exec of our committee, we are looking forward to working with the schools' community to raise funds and support our children's experience of primary school, while being the representatives/voice of all families at Cloverdale Primary schools.
We're all parents and/or carers like you, and have lots of ideas, but also welcome any feedback or ideas you may have.
Did you know there's a Facebook page for us? You can message us that way or through the school email.
