Hello
I want to start this newsletter note with saying thank you – last Friday was our Father’s Day breakfast and it was lovely to see so many of our families (and a few Primary School Families) there enjoying themselves. It is such a positive way to engage with our community.
Father’s Day
A huge thanks to Deb Brown and Jackie Skellern for being the driving force behind the day; buying the sausages, muffins eggs etc. Also to the breakfast cooking team: Maddy White, Vinita Townsend, Matt Davey, Matt Beins, Sam Lombard, Lauren Harris, Jan Rochford, Jackie Skellern, Judi Skewes, Vicky Johnson, Deb Brown and Sandy McNeill. Thanks to Jess Richardson who did an amazing job putting the father’s day video together. I hope you all got to see it as it was lovely. I would also like to thank the class teams who worked so hard to get the art work ready to go home. Finally, to the P&C who allowed us to use the canteen again. It really was a huge team effort!! I have been having conversations with the Primary School and am really hopeful that next year’s event will be back to being a combined event.
Upcoming events
We have a very busy calendar for the next few weeks: The Colour Run is planned for next Friday, 13th September at 2:00pm. So far it’s looking to be a very successful fundraiser. I want to acknowledge Lauren Manuel as she has organised this pretty much on her own with some support from a few of the other teachers. She has planned for some fun activities to be happening throughout the run and it’s going to be completely inclusive for both schools. For this event your child will need a white t-shirt and old clothes and shoes – the colour will stain everything it comes in contact with although it does wash out in the end.
We also have the Faction Carnival on Friday, 20th September, week 9. Thank you to Shane Higgs and Matt McMillian for organising this. It will be a combined event and we are looking for any parents who would like to help out at both this and the Colour Run. The P&C will have a cake stall, coffee van and will be distributing pre-ordered food for lunch from the canteen. A note will be coming out in the next day or two.
In term Swimming lessons commence on Wednesday, 16th October, for eight days. This will be the first Wednesday back next term. A letter with more information will be coming out at the end of term. Our lessons are at 9.20am so please can you send your child into school in their swimming gear with their uniform over the top. Depending on the weather we will probably get changed down at the swimming pool and then walk back dry.
Adventure Week – 2nd – 6th December
Our plans for Adventure week are well underway. A huge thank you to the P&C for the Sausage Sizzle fundraiser to significantly reduce the cost to families. The maximum any family will pay for the whole week of activities will be: $94.00 for students in Year 4, 5 and 6; Year 3 will pay $51.00; Year 2 and below will pay $39.00. More information will be coming out very shortly.
Monday, 2nd December – Whole school excursion to Jungle Gym / Latitude
Tuesday, 3rd December - International Day of Disability Awareness – This is a big day for us. We will start with a combined school assembly with special guests. In the morning, Primary School classes will be coming in to join Education Support classes. There will also be an awareness session in the Primary School classes. Lunch will be a free sausage sizzle for all the students and families are invited to come and join us for lunch and bring a picnic and stay for the afternoon. I really hope you can all come and support us on this day.
The Fire service, St Johns and the Police service will be here along with Constable Care. Then we have WADSA and Perth Football league who we are hoping bring some current AFL players. We are investigating if we can get some food trucks here as well. There will also be other activities going on the oval at the same time
Wednesday, 4th December– Whole school excursion to the Zoo
Thursday, 5 December– STEAM day Incursions – with SciTech, box technology and music rocks.
Friday, 6 December - Swan Valley Activity Centre and Woodbridge activity park
Music Rocks
You will have seen a letter come home from Music rocks. They are so pleased to announce that our Cloverdale musicians and families are invited to Music Rocks Badlands on Saturday, September 21st in Session 1 starting at 9.00am. It will be great to have as many kids as possible this first time. The session last for about 90 mins and the students will get a chance to perform on stage to the families. This is a lovely event and a great way of seeing how much your child has developed as a musician.

There is a video link below if you are wondering what it is all about:
Showcasing STEAM
On Thursday, 15 August we showcased Cloverdale Education Supports Centre and our STEM work. It was really well received and we had lots of people come and visit our stall. On the 26th and 27th November we will also be showcasing the school at the Innovation Technology Expo. We will be the only Education Support setting showcasing with about 200 exhibitors. It is at the Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre. It is a wonderful opportunity to show off what our students can achieve in the area and the amazing work our staff are doing, Sandy McNeill, Tegan Tentori and Maddy White will be presenting about our journey as a TDS in STEM.
Seeking your views
You will have received a letter this week from Travis Nightingale who is our School Board Chair asking for your opinion on the changes to our school uniform. Please fill out the very brief survey and return it to your child’s teacher. Before we make any changes we want to make sure that we have your backing.
Also if you have not already filled in the parent community survey please do the link is below but members of staff will be wondering around with copies of it at the faction carnival.

It will be open to 20 carers which is all our families, and it will be first come first served and there will be a nice morning tea and some massage therapists there to do free hand, shoulder and neck massages. Keep an eye out for the letter and make sure your RSVP.
School Development Day Term 4
The Education Support Centre and the Primary School have decided not to have a School development day on the first Monday back so students start back next term on Monday, 14th October. Our school development day will be Friday, 29th November which will be a pupil free day.
Class Placement request
Finally, we are currently working on class list for next year if you have any particular requests regarding your child class please let your child’s current class teacher know.
We have been having a full term full of Music Rock, Technology and getting dressed up for book week. We have had so much fun this term.
Music Rocks
Music Rocks is our favourite class to attend, we are all so excited for Thursday’s and to be playing a range of musical instruments to our favourite songs. We get to suggest songs to listen to with Mr Kurt. He has been a fantastic teacher in helping us to learn cords and play our instruments to the beat.
Technology
We have been using different materials to make sounds. Last week we used a makey makey and connected it to cups of water. When we put our fingers into the cups of water it would make a piano make sounds. We became superstars!
Book Week
We loved dressing up for Book week. We were all superheros for the day with a range of Disney character and superhero costumes. I would like to congratulate Noah Van Dongen who won the year 2 best dressed during our parade. He dressed up as ‘Tin Tin’ from the series of ‘Tin Tin’ books
This term the theme for the Aqua room is the 1980s. In English, the boys watched footage of Australia II winning the 1983 America’s Cup. They wrote about an aspect of Australia winning the Cup, coloured in a Boxing Kangaroo and these are now displayed in the classroom window.
