Principal's Post
Hello all
On Tuesday we had our NAIDOC celebrations – the t-Shirts that the students decorated with handprints were amazing. They also had the opportunity to decorate a spoon and make Damper. I know for a fact the damper was lovely as I had a taste test! My thanks to Mrs Shane Higgs who organised and ran the day so well for us.
Many thanks to all of you who have contacted me to let me know of any preferences for classes next year. The Workforce Committee and I are working hard to finalise the class list and the staffing for each class for 2021, and still hope to be able to get these out to you with the end of year reports.
If you know that your child will NOT be returning to Cloverdale next year, please can you let me know as soon as possible, as some of our classes are now full and I will need to start waitlisting other children.
I am happy to announce that we will have three new teachers with us for next year: Miss Emily Kayser who will be in the Early Year’s phase of the school, Miss Elysse Hislop who will be in the Middle Primary Phase and Miss Sophie Tan who will be in the Upper Primary phase. We are sadly losing Mrs Jessica Richardson who has won a position at Castlereagh School for 2021. We wish her well on her new adventure.
Over weeks 3 and 4 we had Interm swimming which was a huge event for everyone involved. We were unaware that the splash training pool was closed and would not be available to us for the duration of our lessons before we went there last Monday. I am very grateful to all the staff who were willing to go into the pool with our students. We had 32 members of staff in the water to ensure safety. Watching how well all our students did was amazing, particularly those who were more than a little bit apprehensive about being in the big pool, every one of them made progress and every one of them should be proud of themselves.
On the 26th November we will be having a Harmony NAIDOC celebration with the Primary School. There will be morning activities for our students and you are invited to come and have morning tea on the school grounds with your child at 11am on this day if you wish. There will be a NAIDOC/ Harmony Assembly after the morning tea. A letter will be coming home soon with more details. We will be needing you to RSVP if you are coming for morning tea so that we are able to meeting COVID19 Phase 4 current restrictions.
Just a reminder to ask can you keep your child at home if they are unwell. This is particularly important with COVID19 restrictions and with the opening of the border next weekend. This is also to protect your child, some of our other students who have suppressed immune systems and our staff. If your child is unwell at school we will be calling you to come and get them, so please do not send your child to school if they are not well enough.
A reminder that Friday 27th November is a school development day so students will not be in school that day. The Primary School have an additional day on Monday 30th but this is an ordinary day for us.
Yesterday the new Principal for the Primary School was announced; it is Ms Louise Burke who is an experienced Level 5 Principal. She is coming from Hillman Primary School in Kwinana. She will be in school on Tuesday 17th meeting with us, the Primary School Board and will be at the P&C meeting that evening.
My next newsletter will have all the details of all our end of year celebrations and hope to see you all over the next few weeks.
