Principal's Pen

Dear Parents and Carers,

We have reached the end of Term 2 and what a Term it has been with the COVID 19 pandemic and all the restrictions that have been in place.  It looks like we are now able to return to normal operations from next term, which will be lovely.  I want to take this opportunity by thanking you all for working with us so that we were able to maintain safety for your child and school staff.

Thank you all for responding to the Parent survey about how Cloverdale ESC went during the COVID-19 pandemic here in WA.  We had a 60% response rate to the survey.  The big message that came out from the survey is that you felt very well supported and informed by school, which is the best outcome we could have wished for.

One of the other responses we received a few times from the survey was the fact that some of the information wasn’t clear and changed very rapidly – this is unfortunately one of the things we had no control of, we had to respond as the information was being given to us and some of it was unclear and changed the information only being given a few days before.  I know that I have said this before, but it was a time of unpredicted change no one had experienced anything like it and no one had a manual of how to do it.  Let’s just hope we never need to put our new found skills to the test again.

In my last message to you on Class Dojo I told you that the Restrictions were heading into Phase 4 on Saturday.  What does this mean at a school level? There will be very little change for the last week of term, we will be operating as usual with only a few restrictions:

  1. You are welcome onto school grounds and to take your child to class if you wish, although we will be maintaining the drop off / pick up at the gate. The survey responses showed that the majority of parents want this to continue so we are going to keep this as a new way of working. Gates 3,4 and 5 therefore will be manned by school staff from now. Due to the 2m requirement you will still not be allowed into class this week. This will cease when we reach Phase 5 during the holidays.
  2. Uniform Shop and Breakfast Club will be back from the beginning of Term 3. We will be making an effort to try and get all students from both schools back into full uniform.
  3. We will be starting Assemblies again in Term 3 although we are looking at a different format.

Moving into next term, one of the questions we asked you in the survey was the changing our school times to 8.45am - 2.45pm, 92% of you felt it was a good idea.

As from next term:

Lessons will start at 8.45am. If you are dropping off your child the school gates will be open and there will be staff, there from 8.30am. If you arrive after 8.45 there may not be staff there as teaching will have started so you may need to walk your child to class.  If you arrive after 9am you will need to go through the front office to sign your child in. If you wish to walk your child to class rather than dropping them off, you are very welcome.

Lessons will finish at 2.45pm everyday – there will be no early finish on Wednesday.  We will bring your child to the current gates we are using at 2.45pm.  if you wish to pick up your child you are welcome to wait outside the classroom.

If your child is on the school bus that will not change.  If your child goes to before or after school care at school, we are at the moment keeping the students in class until 3pm when it opens, although they are trying to negotiate being open at 2.45pm.

If your child has siblings in the school, you will need to wait for them to finish at 3pm, unless you arrange with the Primary School teacher to release the Primary School sibling at 2.45pm.

On a Wednesdays the Primary School will continue to finish at 2.35pm, siblings will be welcome into class for the remaining 15 minutes that day.

At the beginning of next term some information will come out about the graduation celebrations that will be occurring at the end of term 4 and also the excursion we are hoping to organising at the end of term 3.

We are having an additional school development day at the beginning of Term 3.  Student will be start back on Wednesday 22nd July, there is a Term 3 planner with the newsletter.

Just a reminder that it a Pyjama Day on Friday this week.

Thank you all for your help and support this term we would not have got through this without you.
