Principal's Post

Hello Everyone

Welcome to the first Newsletter of year. Firstly, I would love to welcome our thirteen new families to our Cloverdale family.  It has been wonderful to get to know all our new students, their Mums and Dads and extended family.

It’s has been a very hectic start to the year with losing the first week of term, but I want to congratulate all the classes and the students for settling in so quickly. It has been lovely to see all the ‘learning’ that has been happening.

We now have nine classes, our new one being Gold, which is the new demountable classroom. Having an additional room has also meant we have welcomed quite a few new faces on staff. We have three new Teachers; Ms Sophie Tan, in Silver Room, Ms Elysse Hislop, in Blue and Ms Emily Kayser, in Green Room. Our new Education Assistants are Ms Amanda House, Ms Tammi Short, Ms Carmen Bond, Ms Sharmi John Earnest, Ms Lara Blacker, Ms Hansa Satasiya and Ms Rabecca Saindwazi.

This week I have met with the P&C and our School Board, both of which had their AGM.  I would like to welcome Bianca Landis, Mason's mum, back to being our School Board Chair, Angelo Forte, Amber's Dad, as Vice President. Your parent representatives on the School Board are Michelle Gabo (Joachim’s Mum), Philippa McNeish (Genesis’ Mum), Chantelle McCarthy (Sam’s mum).

The P&C voted in Jo Davies as the new President, Annemarie Fox has stepped back into the Vice Presidents role.

This year we have started our new Strategic Plan 2021-2023. This is based on the Values that were developed over the last two years in consultation with the community.  One of our Values is Reach Out and Come in, this is all about building community relationships. This Semester we have two new initiatives we would like to get started; the first one is to set up Parent Representatives for each classroom.  A flyer with more information will be coming out next week outlining what this would involve and asking for volunteers.  It will be to try and get parents and families to meet up after school, as well as making sure that school and P&C events are publicised. The first of these events will be a picnic in either Volcano Park or Tomato Lake Park. The other initiative is the Fathering Project, this is a program run for Dads by Dads, more details of this will also be coming out very soon. These are two very exciting initiatives and I hope you will all want to get involved.

I know there has been a lot of issues with getting school uniforms. Thank you all for making sure that our students are wearing the correct uniform.  It is particularly important in the senior classes: Silver, Purple and Yellow as students in these classes are often involved in combined schools’ activities. We are going to introduce an award system for all students wearing their school uniform.

Finally, have a lovely long weekend and enjoy the sunshine.
