Blue Room News
Blue Room has been very busy these last few weeks! We have done so many exciting activities and had so much fun.
During week 1 we focused on what it looks like to be a good friend. We read the book ‘Have you filled a bucket today?’ and completed multiple activities to represent the different ways we can fill up someone’s bucket. There was such a positive energy being displayed from each child after this learning sequence and is something we continually refer to.

Week 2 was a little busier as we started our literacy rotations for our letters and sounds program. We have been learning in small groups which has meant that the skills we are learning are targeted at our own level. Our whole class Reading and Writing has had a central focus on seasons. We have read a few different books that have had great illustrations of seasons and we have learnt the difference between what the weather in one season looks like compared to another. We practise these skills every day during our morning calendar where we ‘put on our weather goggles’ and identify the weather.
In Maths, we have been looking at the different ways we can represent numbers by using objects such as counters, blocks and dice. We have been practising these skills through games which has not only taught us about numbers but how to take turns and be a team player. We have also been working with ‘big’ numbers to 100 to challenge ourselves. We have found that pegs you use on the washing line are very helpful when counting forwards and backwards along a number line! It has made it a lot easier for us to understand the concept of counting forwards or backwards from any number.
Finally, in Science we have been looking and living and non-living things. We have been using our current knowledge of what characteristics living and non-living things have so that we can identify elements within our school that are living or non-living. We have been able to link this to one of the books we read called ‘Little Acorns’ as the life cycle of trees was explained through the seasons.
Blue Room is such a friendly and happy classroom to be learning in this year and we cannot wait to see what we will be learning about over the next few terms.
