Dear Parents and Carers,

This is my last newsletter for 2020. As I said at the various Assemblies we have had in the last couple of weeks, 2020 will go down in history for all the wrong reasons.

This year has been one of the most challenging any of us have experienced and I want to thank you all for your support and your willingness to work with us over the pandemic.

The school could not have got through it without you.

I don’t want to start my final newsletter with such a down note but it is important to realise that this year has not been ‘normal’ in any way. We in Western Australia have been so lucky and hopefully will continue to be so. This year has brought many challenges that no one could have foreseen.

Using a vote from Patrick Ness ‘Everything’s always ending. But everything’s always beginning, too’. 

This year’s students have had to come to terms with social distancing, infection rates, online learning, lock down and the fact you can now get a face mask with the school logo on – which I just found slightly odd.

The students have done so well and have achieved so much regardless of the fact this year has been so ‘unprecedented’ (that is such an overused word this year!).

Last Tuesday I had the pleasure of watching our seven Year 6’s Graduate:

Abu, Beth, Charlie, Ivy, Rowen, Jaward and Nicholas. I wish them all the best on their new adventures to High School.  They were a credit to the school at the Graduation and we are all very proud of them.  I hope that they will all remember to come back and see us.

After the Graduation ceremony here at school, we went to Tompkins on Swan for the Graduation dinner and a disco. 

A huge thank you to Pam Jenzarli who made individual graduation biscuits for all the students to enjoy. There is a photo of me and Mrs Brady holding the biscuits later in the newsletter, there are also a few other photos from the event.  Thank you to Mrs Richardson for organising the photo booth which was enjoyed by pupils and staff alike.

Thank you to Shane Higgs for organising the making and painting of a NAIDOC collage with our students. There is a photo of Aqua room with the final result later in the newsletter. Well done and thank you to all who took part.

On Friday we also had our first ever Christmas Carol performance at Belmont Forum. A huge thank you to Mrs Derby and Mrs Richardson who pulled the performance together.  The students did so well and did a wonderful performance which everyone thoroughly enjoyed. It was so nice to see so many of you and how well it was supported by families and friends.

I sadly missed the Music Rocks assembly as I had a hospital appointment, but I have asked Mrs McNeill to add a bit about it later.  It sounds as if it was a brilliant event.

Finally, I wish you all a happy and relaxing holiday, I hope you all enjoy the time off you will have with your children.  School is back on Monday 1^st February 2021. Stay safe and well.
