Hello Everyone
Welcome back to Term 3. Even with the horrendous weather we have been having we have had a good start to the term. Some of you will have realised that I was not in school for the last three weeks of term. I was on Long Service Leave and managed to get up to the Kimberley which was amazing. But I want to thank Sandy McNeill who sat in the Principal’s seat, and to Lauren Harris, Maddy Scoble and Jinane Haouchar who all took turns being the Deputy Principal. They all did an amazing job and coped brilliantly with the sudden lockdown you had at the end of term.
With the news still coming out of the Eastern States with the delta variant of COVID I do not think we are out of the woods yet and we are likely to get more lockdowns in the future. I have been working with the staff this week to make sure our plans to move to home learning are up to date and that we have all the structures in place to be able to make the move suddenly if needed. I will be sending the updated Home Learning Packs out on Seesaw for you. Those of you who were at the school at the beginning of last year will have already had something very similar, but this is a refreshed version. This is just something for you to use if we move to home learning. I am now added to all the different classes on SeeSaw, so if you would like to direct message me through the App you now can.
We have a lot of very exiting events happening this term:
Assembly
We will be holding our first assembly next Friday 6th August. Silver class will be performing their Acknowledgement of Country from NAIDOC week. Please come and join us. Assembly will start at 8.45am and will be followed by a morning tea. I am hoping that some of the school board and the P&C will attend so you can talk to them to find out what both the School Board and the P&C are about.
The Fathering Project
Hopefully you will have received an invite from the P&C to come along to school next Friday 6th August to the Fathering Project Launch. The Fathering Project is designed to get more Dads involved in school. The launch is a free Pizza and Paper Planes event. It starts at 5.30 to 7.30pm and is open to all Dads and the child or children who attend Cloverdale Schools. When we say Dad it is whoever is the father figure in your child’s life – if that is Grandad, Uncle, Mum, boyfriend then they are very welcome. It will be held in the undercover area. Please makes sure you have returned the RSVP slip to the P&C so that we know how many to cater for.
Excursion to Cohuna park
This was postponed from the end of last term and you would have got a letter last week with the new details. It is now on Tuesday 10th August and the whole school is going. If you have any questions or did not get a letter, please contact your child’s teacher through SeeSaw.
Year 5 and 6 Transitions
If your child is in Years 5 or 6 you would have received some information from Lauren Harris about the open evenings and transition days for Kensington Secondary School and Cannington Community Education Support Centre. These are wonderful opportunities to go and have a look at our two main secondary feeder schools. If you have any questions, please contact Lauren Harris.
Science Week
We will be doing science week activities on Monday 16th and Tuesday 17th August. One of the incursions we have coming in is from Browns Dairy. Watch out for more information about this.
Book Week
We also have Book Week coming up. This year’s theme is 'Old Worlds, New Worlds, Other Worlds'. The book week parade is now on Thursday 26th August at 9:30am on the front lawn. The fair will be open on the Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.
Father’s Day
We are hoping that we will be able to run our Father’s Day Breakfast on Friday 3rd September. You will be receiving and invitation from your child to this event but put it into your diaries, it’s from 7.30am to 9am.
School Uniforms
We will be changing over to Uniform Concept at the end of next week. Please see the flyers included in the newsletter.
Having told you about all the exciting things that are happening, we have already had two events. Last Sunday the P&C held a sausages sizzle. Thank you to all the parents who came down and helped and to all of you who came down and bought a sausage. We raised a massive $1211.95 which will go towards our end of year activities. A huge thank you again to Annemarie Fox who pulled it all together with very little notice. A lot of staff also came down to help and there were certainly some hidden sausage cooking talents emerging!!
We also had our NAIDOC assembly this week. A huge thank you to Shane Higgs for organising all the amazing Art activities and cooking the damper (it was very yummy). Also a big big thank you to Trevina Edgar, Zayde’s mum in Orange Room, who came and helped with all the activities, she was fabulous.
Finally, it’s that time of year when colds and bugs start to appear we have already had a lot in school. Please keep your child home if they are unwell. I hope to see you at one of our many events this term.
Debi
Welcome back to Term 3! Can you believe we have reached the half way mark already?! This term brings a few changes, we have 2 new staff members joining our room, Jodi Thomson and Catherine Quan.
This Semester, in Numeracy we will be exploring 2D and 3D shapes. We have started by making shapes we already know using pop sticks.
This Term, in Literacy we will be exploring Fairy Tales, this will also cross over into Science and Technology (cooking) on a Thursday and Art. This week we read Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs and the students got to make their own magic mirrors and apple print painting. We are looking forward to exploring lots of different Fairy Tales throughout this term!
It has been wonderful to see our students settle back into Pink Room, we are very excited to keep learning and playing in Term 3.
Every Thursday afternoon our class will be joining Gold Room and Green Room to participate in play, cooking and technology activities with the other students in Early Years. This is a great opportunity to play with other students and get to know other teachers in the Early Years.
This Semester, we have started our Letters and Sounds Program. Our Pre-Primary students are being exposed to two sounds a week, with a few of us starting to use the actions for the letter sounds and hear the letter sounds in different words. Our Kindy Students are focusing on recognising letters by completing letter art and sensory activities. Students have settled in really well to this routine.
We hope you enjoy the photos of us working on our ‘a is for apple’ letter art.
We can’t wait to see what we achieve as a class in Term 3.
Your child should have brought home a sponsorship form for the combined schools Colour Run that is taking place on September 2nd. All students will receive sunglasses and a rainbow headband on the day. Students are encouraged to wear a white shirt on the day for full effect. There has been plenty of coloured powder ordered and it should be a fun day.
Parents are encouraged to set up an online profile, collecting donations and ordering prizes online. Cash can still be collected and returned to school with the completed order forms. Cash and forms can be returned to TA 12 from Monday 23rd August to Wednesday September 1st (8:00am-8:45am)
Thank you in advance for your support.
