Hello everyone,
We have finally reached the end of an eleven-week term! I’m sure the students and staff are definitely ready for some rest and relaxation. What a way to end it with the COVID restrictions and lockdown being reintroduced. I hope that everyone has been able to keep safe and well. Thank you for adapting to the new restrictions so easily here at school. Please remember that you must wear a mask at all times and continue to practise social distancing. I will do my best to update you on any changes that may occur over the holidays.
On a happier note, I would like to say well done to the middle years’ classes for their wonderful assembly. You did a fabulous job! I would also like to thank Shane Higgs for organising activities for NAIDOC week. The students had a fantastic time working together and creating wonderful pieces of artwork. Take a look at some of their beautiful work in the photos below. They all did a fantastic job!
It is also lovely to see all the students celebrating their last day of school in free dress. They all look lovely in their favourite clothes. I know the staff have some wonderful activities organised to reward the students for all their hard work this term. I’m sure they will all have a fantastic day.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the parents, staff and students for their support over the last few weeks while Debi has been on long service leave. I can let you know that she is having a wonderful time on her travels. She has been updating me with lots of beautiful photos of all the places she has visited. I am sure she will have lots of stories for us all when she returns ready for Term 3.
School will be resuming on Tuesday 20th July. I will attach the updated Term 3 calendar in this newsletter and also on See Saw. If you have any queries, please do not hesitate in contacting me or calling the school.
I hope you all enjoy the holidays and hope that you will be able to get out and about soon.
Sandy
Fathering Project
Next term we will be starting to engage with the Fathering Project. This is a fantastic opportunity for our fathers and father figures to engage with both their child/ren and other fathers. The first event is due to take place on Friday 6th August in the evening. This will be a fun filled event with pizza and paper planes. Please watch this space to hear more about this.
Wonder Recycling Rewards
Please don’t stop collecting your bread bags and tags. The P&C will be collecting and sending off the last few bags on day 1 of Term 3. If you have some bags collected over the holidays, please bring them back to school on Tuesday 20th July and place them in the boxes around the school.
Car Parking
Please remember to meet your child at the school gate or classroom when picking up your child at the end of the day. We want to ensure the safety of all students during this time and protect them from any moving cars that may not see them. Thank you for your support with this.
Water Bottles in Classrooms
Could you please ensure that all drink bottles being brought to school are recyclable plastic water bottles and not metal ones.
We have had such a fantastic Semester in the Pink Room! We have had lots of new Kindy and Pre-Primary students arrive at Cloverdale Education Support Centre and it has been amazing to see how much they have achieved and settled in this semester.
This semester students have worked really hard to learn the routine of our classroom, develop some new skills and most importantly have some fun!
This week we made pancake faces during one of our art activities as we have been learning about the different features in our face during our lessons with Mrs Nightingale.
On Thursday we finished this off by making real pancake faces. We helped Mrs Scoble pour the mixture and waited so patiently at the round table while the pancakes cooked.
We tried really hard to make our pancakes into faces, but the ingredients were so yummy we couldn’t wait!
We hope you enjoy the photos of our pancake making adventures.
It has been a busy Term 2! In Gold Room this term we have been lucky enough to enjoy 2 visits from WADSA. We were able to explore different activities and musical instruments all while having lots of fun!
We have also concluded our Science unit, learning about our five senses. For our final lesson we made popcorn! We learnt that we use all 5 senses when making and enjoying popcorn. Some of us enjoyed listening to the sounds the popcorn made and all of us enjoyed eating it!
Wow, what a rewarding Term it has been in Yellow Room! Special shout-outs go to Mac, Joachim and Montana (Purple Room) for moving up to Phase 4 in our Letters and Sounds Phonics Program and Ella, Mac, Ye Yint and Robert who have moved up levels in our PM Reader Program. Tyler and Sayd are now able to read Phase 2 words, which is a fantastic achievement. It has been fantastic seeing the progress all the students have made using our new Literacy programs.
This Term we have also been trialling a new Mathematics Program called Origo Stepping Stones. The students receive an explicit lesson on the smartboard with Miss Harris and then practice the concept in their Student Journals. They also have Practice books that they complete with the classroom staff throughout the week to keep them practising previously taught skills. The students are loving having their own workbooks so they can review and consolidate their learning from week to week.
